Five lesser-known things to do in New York City are well worth your time

When you visit New York City, you are bound to see the most famous sites, which will certainly include Times Square, Central Park, the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building. But if you want to be original and discover locations and things to do that are lesser-known, here is a list of five that you should check out.

How to prepare a list of Things to do Before Your trip to NYC

There are so many locations to visit in New York City that it is better to look up a New York City travel guide online and choose the ones that you don’t want to miss when you get there, before you leave. To these, you may add a few of the selections that we made below, providing that you spend sufficient time in NYC to catch them all.

The High Line

The High Line is a unique public park since it follows a historic elevated freight rail line above the streets on Manhattan’s West Side. It starts on Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District and goes all the way to West 34th Street, between 10th and 12th Avenues. This is a great experience, as it offers unique views of the city, as well as beautiful gardens and green spaces where you can rest along the way. It also features art installations and performances throughout the course.

The Tenement Museum

Everyone knows that New York City was the original door of entry for European immigrants that arrived by boats, a long time ago. Therefore, it is interesting to understand more about the history of the city by visiting this museum which focuses on America’s urban immigrant history. It retells the story of immigrants who lived in tenement buildings located in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, in the late 19th century and early 20th.

The Brooklyn Flea

Who does not want to bring back a little part of New York City home with them? That is certainly one of the reasons why so many tourists stop by the Brooklyn Flea. In this very popular outdoor market, visitors can shop for vintage clothing, artisanal food and handmade crafts. Since there are a few locations in the city, it makes it easy to reach and to find the right items to bring home as souvenirs or as a gift for someone special.

Green-Wood Cemetery

Green-Wood offers natural wonders, which in themselves make it a must-visit location in New York City. On the ground, visitors can take trolley tours to explore the cemetery and discover its permanent residents, which include Leonard Bernstein, Boss Tweed, and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

The Bronx Zoo

Final location on our list, the Bronx Zoo may not be the least known site in New York City. However, since it is the largest metropolitan zoo in the United States, it made it easy to insert on this list. It is home to more than 4,000 animals representing over 650 species. A visit no one will regret having taken time for, no doubt.
