A Family Visit to Palm Beach Zoo, Florida

Imagine 45-degree weather, outside, zoo hoping – this all sounds ok if you’re anywhere but Florida! While visiting my parents in West Palm Beach where the weather is always between 65 – 90, we decided to hit Palm Beach Zoo the only day of the entire year when it practically hit arctic digits!

Luckily, we were still able to have a great time.

But you know what? We were already there, and we had to find a way to make the best of it as we could. All we did was throw on a few warm jackets, from our NY days, and went on a frigid exploration of this famous Zoo.

What to See and Do at Palm Beach Zoo in Florida:

My family and I’ve been to our shares of zoos, and it takes a lot to impress us these days, but I have to say, we were impressed with their exhibits. Apparently, they have changing ones for different themes. When we were there, the main scope seemed to be Mayan and rain forest. Living in Guatemala for years, this was still a treat for my kids to see.

It also makes it feel like animals have a lot of space and an area where they can feel almost at home. We didn’t see any sad animals. Plus they have an animal hospital where all the ones from the zoo or any external ones are treated.

However, I have to say the highlight of the zoo was the komodo dragon, which we have NEVER seen and my son has vouched to love and take care of these not-so-gentle giants forever!

Plus we enjoyed these attractions at the zoo:

1. Measuring next to an enormous Polar Bear – Do you think you could ever reach the top?

2. Almost swimming with a croc

3. Chilling out with Tigers

4. Spend a few minutes at the amazing petting zoo.

5. Look for Jaguars in the middle of Mayan (reproductions) ruins

6. Have a delicious meal at their restaurant.

Amongst tons of other things to do.

For older kids (12 and up) you can make a special reservation to go and help out the zookeepers and enter cages. We’ll see about that once my kids can enjoy such luxuries.

The coolest thing about this place is that they do some serious conservation studies and efforts.

Information About the Zoo

At the moment the zoo houses over 500 animals on 23 acres and sees approximately 300,000 visitors annually.
