Chervon just recalled thousands of Ego cordless hedge trimmers. Here's what you need to know

If you want to keep your garden neat and tidy, the one thing you definitely need is a hedge trimmer. This handy device makes trimming your hedges a breeze, and many people prefer a cordless one to avoid the hassle of finding an outlet.

Unfortunately, if you bought a cordless hedge trimmer in recent years, you may want to check on it again. Chervon North America, which sells Ego cordless hedge trimmers, just issued a recall that affects almost 90,000 Ego-branded hedge trimmers across North America and Canada.

What Models Were Recalled?

The recall was issued by the company for EGO Power+ Model HT2410 Cordless Brushless Hedge Trimmers produced before March 30, 2019. The trimmers have a gray, black and green housing and a black loop handle with a green switch trigger.

Why Was the Recall Issued?

The recall was issued by the company for the EGO Power+ Model HT2410 Cordless Brushless Hedge Trimmers due to the trimmers starting unexpectedly. The rear switch trigger of this model can sometimes fail to rebound after being pressed, which may cause the tool to activate out of the blue. According to the Consumer Protection and Safety Commission (CPSC), Chervon received 34 reports of such incidents, with eight resulting in lacerations that needed stitches.

How Do I Know If My Trimmer Has Been Recalled?

The recall affects about 85,000 trimmers in North America and about 4,000 in Canada. They were sold at home improvement stores, hardware stores and other distributors both in-store and online, including Ace Hardware, Home Depot and Acme from September 2017 to March 2020. The products were priced between $150 and $220.

If you bought an Ego hedge trimmer from these distributors during this time, check the model number and date number. All of the recalled units are marked with the model number HT2410, and all units produced between September 2017 and March 2019 are affected.

What Should I Do If I Own a Recalled Trimmer?

If you own one of these trimmers, stop using it immediately and contact Chervon North America for a free trigger switch repair. The company can be reached at 800-492-0777, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET, as well as on Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET.
